Directions

The Online International Phonetic Alphabet Tutor is designed to be used by students with teacher guidance and instruction. Teachers should ensure their students are using the Tutor correctly.

Students should study the symbol, then its associated key word, stating the word aloud. They should then click on the word. At this point, the associated audio file will load into the browser, and appear in a small window on the page. Click the play button and listen to the sound file. Repeat the sound, attempting to mimic it exactly. Teachers should monitor their students to ensure they are following these steps and that their repetitions of the sound files are accurate.
